Strange World Final Drafts

by Gabrielle Loisel

Design Sentence: “I want to create a sinister, surreal nightmare world.”

I wanted my pieces to evoke the eerie feeling of uncertainty that one encounters in a dream: the feeling that things are not as they seem, somehow inexplicably “off.” At first glance, the pieces contain people in dramatic, inexplicable poses, but on closer inspection, one sees that it is not the what the figures are doing that is inherently bizarre, but the figures themselves (girls with hundreds of fingers, girls fading into nothing, etc).
